KaKaRoTo is a man who worked for the community despite its flaws, in-hopes that people would appreciate and contibute eventually. That quickly changed and despite the lack of contributions KaKaRoTo continued researching which eventually lead him to creating the 3.73 jailbreak.
This vision of his is now crushed because somebody has leaked it. This is partly the reason why this community is failing and right now, KaKaRoTo is trying to figure out who to point the finger to.
You're probably reading this because you want this jailbreak. However, I won't supply stolen goods. The jailbreak isn't even complete yet.
Either way KaKaRoTo's rage is expressed in the tweet below the article.
..And people wonder why developers don't share things..
We'll keep you posted!

I will care when it has the backup manager feature
What an asshole.. You don't appreciate the delvelopers work. Nothing but a pirate.
Good luck trying to get a backup manager to work by yourself, douche.
Toughen up cupcake.
That was pretty ignorant. Considering someone just had their work stolen, I think that's the least important thing to worry about. Not to mention, I wouldn't be surprised if KaKaRoTo chose to leave the community after this, talk about a spit in the face.
talk about the pot calling the kettle black. what do you expect from thieves, honor?
It wasn't stolen, it was an unoffical release leaked by someone.
You sir, are a moron.
First of all, you're an idiot and you're not entitled to anything. Second of all, he specifically said that there will be no peek & poke which means no backup managers. That being said, I too, hope that someone will work towards a downgrade, not backup managers. Because unlike you, who probably pirates things and clearly acts like an entitled moron, people actually use homebrew for legitimate purposes. The community gets nothing because of people like you. I hope that your 'kind' gets eradicated, and that developers will see the community for what it really is, and not look at the garbage at the bottom. That being said, I do hope that he finds it inside him to keep on working on the jailbreak, and bring what patient people have been waiting for--a jailbreak--the first step to opening the PS3 up again.
hey man thats pretty insensitive, who are you to look down on people just to feel better about your self. Every one has an opinion about this kind of stuff and i'm pretty sick and tired of your "kind" always trying to look and act like your better than some people that do not share the same opinion as yours. If you don't like what he says just ignore it theres no harm in that, some people can be ignorant of the facts that something good was just taken way from them yet they cannot see it for their own selfish reasons. hey man no bad feelings okej?
Irixion, Your comment doesn't even phase me. I know I should have left the comment to myslef but don't even act like you're this little goody two shoes that hasn't ever download anything illigally. He can still get in trouble for doing this stuff so you might as well my the full use out of the jailbreak and but a backup manager in it. No point of JALIBREAK or CFW if you can't play your games that require certain firmware.
You know what that's really selfish of you. Without this you'll never even have a chance at a backup manager. You try doing the work they do, prolly can't, so keep quiet if you have nothing important to say
hear hear!
why would you ruin the chance of having a full cfw by leaking an unfinished project which may cause the creator to stop their work?
What a shame... it is really a shame that this happend to a working selfless guy, who's genuine trying to give us something good... that said... it's good to see that there's something being done.
On the other hand, let's hope that this don't cripple his intentions of finishing his job...
this is crap, people should stop stealing from the ones who are helping everyone out
Stupid people for leaking stuff. I wish I could make a cfw or even any homebrew app but I dont know how..... I want to learn maybe devs can come up with a getting started guide... ps3 programming for dummies or something...
ok first mat now kak?
That sucks KaKaRoTo I cant believe the measures some people will go to.
will the jailbreak still be released?
and sony wins :)
I see two sides of this.
Leaking it against the developers wishes is a kick in the face. Sucks that some cannot be trusted.
I feel bad for your loss, but you will still be remembered for your work that you have done even if somebody else finishes it.
Benefit is allowing more people to see your current work and build together to possibly finish it sooner.
Kick back is if Sony reviews it and creates a fix before a hack is finished.
At least get his name right
How did this get leaked i always thought he was the only one with it seeing how he was the only one working on it right?
nufsed
He should have NEVER told anybody or posted anything about his Jailbreak unless he was asking for it to be leaked and he should have just kept it to himself untill it was ready instead he just like every other DEV had to go and blab about it to everyone like a kid who was told a secret so i feel it was his own fault and furthermore the only homebrew that people will use are cheat devices and map mods or something to get back on to a service that they have NO right to be on unless they follow the rules and stay on OFW so quit your crying and just deal with it also don't you think that $0NY might have spies out there looking for things like this thats why they come up with more reasons to remove features like the OtherOS and backward compatiblity due to security risks and such
Okay, this bugged me.
1. He only shared his jailbreak with certain people (Most likely Devs) that he completely trusted.
2. When did any 'true' gamer care about cheating.. Others want to code their own games and such. Some may want to play other games created/ported by homebrew-devs..
3. There is no evidence that there was ANY security issues in OtherOS. Prove there was.
It wasn't really leaked anyway, it was a mis-understanding. So wise-up and I'm fine with dropping it now.
Eh That sucks so much. I mean you probably trusted one of them friends. Why would they leak it ? :(
to be honest. i hope all developers post their stuff. and put (BEWARE OF BRICKING) or somthing like that. that way they are contributing and they can make everyone start doing CFW's but since no one says anything and everyone keeps everything shut. its preety stupid. and even if it is leaked. wow big deal i mean really.. if its on youtube there are 10000000 videos saying they have a "real" jailbreak.. and if its in a forum the admins will just take it off. its preety hard to find it. so i wouldnt worry too much about that.
I think this is great news. Devs have become arrogant, selfish and self-centered. They have all lost the motivation and the goal of the greater good, and nobody is sharing. Nobody shares shit because they want "street cred" or some shit, when they need to be sharing openly and working TOGETHER on this shit.
Fuck Kakaroto and Math, they can fuck off for all I care. I'll be watching the Rebug team.
youre fucking ignorant. THIS is exactly why the community is where it is: assholes like you. do you have any idea what time and effort it takes to do this sort of thing? where is the motivation? look at the ps3 scenes compared to xbox and wii. you think ps3 devs have nothing better to do with their time than to hack for a community that bitches that the hack wasnt what they wanted or asked for? and you have the nerve to call THEM selfish. you complain that they have lost their motivation for the greater good but YOU are the one bitching that they havent given you what YOU wanted quick enough.
Ahhh man you have not been keeping up. Kakaroto was the one that was gonna release it but he is still working on it. He also released a passed jailbreak. Get with the program.

since I think you mean "past", you can get with the English program.
someone who doesn't just care about cred and ownership always ends up doing what others stop to whine about.
enjoy your non hacked ps3
Dont care about that as long as it has no backup manager
What?!?!? There's no honour amongst pirates, thieves and criminals??? Who knew lol
Suck it up princess
im tired of assholes ruining the community be this type of shit. its no wonder devs dont want to work with the ps3. im done with it personally.
I remember when the hacking scene was all about sharing work and helping the PS3 community for the better good. Not bitching about who did what or how. Its quite unincurigable (Spelling) to hear this stuff
Yes it is sad how some devs are. But I know many great devs from the Wii scene who would never deserve selfish leaks like this. I have been following the PS3 scene for a while now and I don't really know the devs or have seen much of their actions so I can't comment on KaKaRoTo. But I will say yes, some devs are full of them selves.
I think this is great.. kaka roto in spanish mean broken shit or poop.. im glad he got leaked and i hope we have custom firmware soon (y)..
sincerely,
high on life
in a way this could be good cuz somebody can progress on it and put Backup support on .... he should be happy
I don't understand why the project being leaked is stopping him from developing it further or why he has any reason to be upset.
Kakaroto has said via twitter that to clarify, it was not leaked. See here.
^^^^^Read this guys post^^^^^^
soooo whats keeping him from continuing???? even if someone else somehow makes a jailbreak from the work hes done already, his will end up being his own unique thing and seperate from whatever else comes out...whatever who took his work is going to do will more than likely be sompthing completely different and possibly not as good seeing as they are trying to work on sompthing thats "half" complete. so the way i see it its notthat bad....its not like they came in his house and took his computer or sompthin like that.....he can still continue, i understand he's pissed about it, i would be too but theres no point in being pissed for too long about sompthing like that cause theres always going to be someone out there that is going to take what you have and make it their own and call it original even though its not
Ha ha doesnt seem like anything was leaked so all you can stop ur bitching but not like it matters firmware 4.0 comeing in hot so his jailbreak is worthless~
They can't fix what they don't know about.
GOOD NEWS! There was no leak! Although you never really know, but I'm more and more convinced that it wasn't a leak.

So first of all, thank you to all who gave their support and the twitter flood was extreme. I am really happy to see that many concerned users in the scene, with a very few exceptions, I noticed that most people were disgusted and unhappy with the leak, someone summed it up pretty nicely "While I should be happy that it's leaked, I'm not, I'm disgusted, I don't even want to use it now". So thank you, with your support, you have given me joy and the confidence that this scene has a lot more voices than the few angry haters.
That being said, here's an explanation of what happened.
Someone came to talk to me on IRC asking "Is this how you did ? " and he gave some explanation.. which was true. At that point, it could be either coincidence or a leak, but what made me believe in a leak is that he said something (which I can't really tell what it is) that was very unique and special and weird and you wouldn't expect it (even if you found the same 'exploit'), and that little detail was specific to my jailbreak. Unfortunately, the guy went offline before I could reply to him, so all I could see was that it was a leak.
After going around, only 6 people actually knew of the jailbreak's method, and I spoke to all of them and I trust them all and I'm sure none of them spoke about it with anyone. It turns out, the person who approached me asking "is this how you did : .... " had not received any information from anyone. When I finally caught him online and asked him where he got that information, I realized that it was simply someone who was clever enough to figure it out.
As for that one detail that was quite unique to my jailbreak, it turns out it was miscommunication.. the guy meant something completely different from what I understood, and yes, I guess I was just being paranoid and I interpreted it in one way. But when he explained what he meant by it, it made sense... now that I read his message again, I see exactly what he meant, but since I couldn't understand it first, the only way I could interpret it was to understand it as being that detail specific to my method. Life is hard when one word/sentence can be interpreted in multiple valid ways...
So anyways, that's how it is, it looks like nothing was leaked, so everyone's happy now. But this was a wake up call actually, it just reinforced that I should be even more cautious and avoid talking about it to anyone until it's ready.
On that note, progress was made even though I'm on vacation, and it's going well, I won't say anything else
Thank you,
KaKaRoTo
I agree that it's bad for an exploit to get leaked that some spent hours
on but i think everyone is forgetting that this is a hacking
"community". When the devs keep to themselves it's easier for the big
company's to shut them down. Take geohott for example, if he shared his
exploits to the community Sony couldn't have pointed their finger at him
and sued him. I know he was trying to prove something other then save
his own ass but i think these corporations would take a bigger hit if
they had say thousands of people working on an exploit rather than a few
people. I know if everything was public the undercovers would be able
to fix the problem much faster but whats the difference if an exploit is
in development for a month or so and gets released then a week later an
update fixes it? Sony get mad... Someone takes the blame. If KaKaRoTo
keeps at it he'll be next one in court. A lot of people would not know
where to start with exploiting a ps3 but if the info was readily
available more people can help. This need to be turned back into a
community. Just sayin...
