If you're deep in the scene you probably already know this, but I feel I should let everyone know anyway... Written and posted by [developer] Squarepusher at the new Homebrew Cafe is an insightful read, detailing the recent psx-scene takeover and their new TOS, which waives your rights to anything you post, whether that be a ported emulator, an original homebrew, or your forum profile pic ... psx-scene.com effectively owns all your shit and they're free to do whatever they want with it.
Now I can't write it any better than Squarepusher so I'll ask you click here and read on. Most scene developers have already abandoned ship, trashing their existing threads and finding a new home elsewhere.
So what now? Well you can always find the latest [worthwhile] news & homebrew right here. Yes, things are slow right now, but like I said in the past, big things are happening behind the scenes ... just you wait and see.
If you're a homebrew developer we welcome you to release whatever you got in our forums. We won't rip you off or assume ownership — nothing silly like that. The Homebrew Cafe forum is a solid spot too, especially for a more technical look and discussion into the world of homebrew.
Update: psx-scene updated their TOS [again] ... and it looks like they listened -- they no longer assume ownership of whatever you submit. Props to them.

Any way to delete the accounts from over there as the account name I used is a character from my personal novel that I am working on and hope to one day get publish and I don't want them to think that the TOS gives them claim over my personal Property. I already removed all the rest of the other stuff from there just need to remove that account name at least.
For sure, they might think they own your screen name as well. what pricks
Take a gander at this. It seemed like an appropriate picture to make, and we can all figure out who is who. http://s277.photobucket.com/al...¤t=BitchStoleMyHomebrew.jpg
i don't know Gary's reasons for selling psx-scene but I hope it was for good reasons. The media company that took over, I can't remember their name, but they are a media company and as belonging to a cocksucking brood of greed mongers, we should never visit that site again.Nobody visit psx-scene, they have forsaken everyone that made the site what it is.FreeMCboot devs hopefully find a new home to nurture that gem and everyone else.ps3Crunch seems like it updates new and good things, gary being there should be ok, as while he was on ship it was all ok.
AAAHAHAHAHA..... I fucking always hated those assholes who owned the site before they sold it to a bigger assholes. They were fucking Nazies always their way or the highway. Haven't been on it for over 6 months now.
SquarePusher's awesome. He let me edit his VBA code and improve it. I hear what he's saying though. Every developer on twitter from KaKaRoToK's to Matheiulh dislikes PSX-Scene and I for one agree. From both a developer perspective and a former site owner, I feel that PSX-Scene have become a greedy and self-obsessed community. Fact is, I don't like how the staff can ban people for having opinions and I don't like the fact they feel they own our projects - This defies the point of a community. If anything, they seem to expect to have their asses kissed - Which won't ever happen. People already seem to be avoiding PSX-Scene and they should, there's loads of better hacking and development-themed networks such as Dashhacks and sites such as PS3-Hax and PS3 Crunch. PSX-Scene is just a pit - Full of Ass-hole admin's, so who really needs that?
For some reason I am hoping the site owners who made the decision to place that Terms Of Service actually tought :" Hey, no one reads that TOS anyway, they just upload their stuff and we are in gold!" Untill their moments of feeling the most genious men on the planet are suddenly blown into pieces by a huge "BOOM" noise comming from their base, echoing to many many more fora.
Why do I get the feeling Sony was behind all this and paid off psx-scene and psgroove...
You think Sony payed psx-scene.com to make that TOS? Or maybe Sony are the ones who is behind psx-scene.com?!
Do you think that Sony payed off psx-scene.com to make that TOS? What good would that do?
ok well fine, if they own all the homebrew, doesnt that mean that they will be responsible for breaking the dmca?
Yes.
Are they not just a bad as sony if they are asking you to sign over your rights? I can understand why anyone would not use this site anymore if just for that reason... It's sad.. Aside from the couple jerks on this scene who want to argue about emu(being a shorter way to write it) and emulater this forum was the best at PS related things.
damn.... next thing you know is a firmware that bricks your ps3 and when you turn it on it says "WE OWN YOUR PS3 NOW!!!!"
I hope every developer there leaves, what they are doing is wrong. That's all they can do, they don't have the knowledge to develop homebrew.
when the redesign of psxscene happened I stopped posting, It's really to bad I liked having 2 sources for ps3 hacks/modding/homebrew/etc news but I just hate looking at it now makes my eyes bleed.
and now there doing A dev contest. wow setup much?
Man, that's a pretty restricting TOS to agree to. And if other people post a dev's work, they own that work anyway. That's terrible! Well, greg's right; we still can get all the news and 'brew here :p
Update on the TOS it has been changed and the changes can be found here http://psx-scene.com/forums/co...
who do PSX-SCENE think they are......sony or something??? what maggots they are..... the admin of psx scene doesnt have nothing to do nor do they contribute to our beloved homebrew scene so why (just cause they run a site) do they think they can take the work of others and label it as their own. well guess wot psx scene your sites a hunk of shit...and furthermore shit aint labeled
Its sad when people do not know the difference between granting a license and signing over a copyright. Squarepusher was a jerk that insulted any one with a different view then what he had.
It's nice to see them update the TOS again..but why did they have the ownership thing put in the TOS to start with?
