A New Open Source PS3 FTP Server Released
A home-brewed first for jjolano: OpenPS3FTP v1.0. It's an alternative to blackb0x FTP server and it's open source. If you're a FileZilla user, you'll probably have better luck using this when transferring files to/from your PS3, especially an abundance of [large] files at one time.
Open PS3 FTP Server Features
- Passive mode support
- Active mode support
- Multiple worker support (multi-threaded)
The default user/pass is root/openbox -- more details in the README.
Update: jjolano has released version 1.1, which improves on stability and performance, and also fixes some bugs.

- Added XMB exit event handling (thanks facanferff)
- Cleaned up and shortened some code
- Fixed up the last modified date in directory listings
- Added an option to disable the login checking (at compile time)
- Fixed a small bug in passive mode which made the transfer fail

Does this app have the same issue as blackb0x, that it fails to create folders when uploading folders with content to the ps3?
can you transfer files from PC directly to ur PS3 using this app?And do you connect using ftp program like you normally do using 192.168 etc address without password?
now that its open source i wonder if it could be built into the custom firmware as a option to run from the XMB?
That's a great idea. As long as it doesn't bug as the previous ftp server that used to crash and couldn't create folders. oh well, it was better than nothing.

@TheLoveHacker12Just test it yourself. You don't risk anything on doing it and as Stabilot said it (should) work great. Test it yourself if nobody complains about it and shut up.
yes it works but it is not faster than blackb0x i tested both, and make sure u use a cat 6 ethernet cable they are faster than cat 5 cable, juss look on the ethernet cable for wat cat version it is.
LOL. I would think your NIC and network backbone (router) would have more impact than the cable type (and cat 5e is supposed to be just as good as cat6).
How do you install it on the ps3?when i download there are two files and i cant install them to ps3
I use MultiMAN's built in ftp server, but I got to say THANK YOU, it is nice to know that someone see's the importance of making an OPEN ftp and hopefully this will attract attention and gain a lot of support. An independent ftp server that works GOOD has been much needed. Key word being OPEN.Thanks again for applying your efforts here.

I have a major question(i googled but didnt find my answer).: I download my games from ,ps3iso . com , can you transfer just a part of game with ftp to your ps3 and later another one until you sent all parts. or must you transfer all at once? I dont have a big hdd :(

today I downloaded Crystal Drive for a DSI and absolutely adore this kind of game. anyone have suggestions for quite similar games?
Man this thing is really fast. I went from averaging 20mb/s with blackbox to over 50mb/s with openbox. Very nice software, I'm sold on it but it does need a basic connection display. I had to guess at the IP address while blackbox usually has it displayed right there.
I believe you can check the ip address in the ps3 xmb network settings -> status
Ya I know it would just be nice if it was added to the status page. I know how to check and stuff, but it would be more noob friendly if it were there.

Suggestions:Add interface for changing username and password to the users liking.NO other PS3ftp out there has it. It is needed IMO.Very, very nice start though, props.
Great work. Thanks.If anyone is looking for a nice project... a PS3 unRAR would be superb. We could then transfer using these various FTP tools at a much quicker rate and unRAR on the PS3 itself.

After I launch the program, do I need to leave the FTP on the screen while im transfering? Or can I launch the program and quit out back to the XMB?

... and it will go away after a few sec.Then you can do other stuff such as gaming at the same time.

why you banging on about cfw 3.56 psn is gone forever when dns trick runs out make do with the good stuff we have now and forget about psn or just buy a 2nd console like me to go online if it's that important to you. i bought a 2nd hand 40 gig ylod console off ebay for £47 reflowed the mother board myself rub old thermal paste off gpu cpu reapply new and bobs ur uncle 2 stations 1 for homebrew 1 for psn happydays bollox to sony i hate them. rant over GRrrrrr
