Geohot Explains PS3 Security at Nuit Du Hack
For what it's worth, Geohot explains the PS3 security at the Nuit Da Hack conference in Paris. To quickly summarize: PS3 security is tight, but it isn't unhackable. The PS3 is hacked at a theoretical level and the rest is up to you -- the other hardcores out there. Geohot has no plans to release an "easy custom firmware" - not like Dark_AleX on the PSP. Oh, and blackra1n (iPhone hack) users are generally stupid.

Well form what I see here there will be another 2-3 years until we will be able to play hombrew on PS3. I am just gonna update.
Im not a doubter, I always believed that theres a way, and its only a matter of time. The thing is, Geo got sony more uptight with their security and updates... I mean other OS had already been removed... I think he should just take full responsibility by completing the tastk and not say "unlike DarkAlex, im not gonna release somethin out there" Instead of having some1 else to step up and finish what he started.

The last one wasn't even good...He told how to get the Metldr code, and there is already documents on how to use it. If loading it really means decryption of pretty much anything, it shouldn't be too hard with proper decryption of everything. I will stay on 3.15 forever if I have to. I use OtherOS for lots of things, from school, to testing programs. I refuse to let Sony take it away.I will be looking in to the PS3 over the summer. Probably won't find much, but it would be cool too poke around.

he explained how to hack it. seems like anyone with some extensive c+ programming skills could come up with something atleast. he said exactly how you can access the metloader which he says is all someone needs to hack it. And ppl whining about other os, they removed it from the slim, it was already a feature they left alone since launch big deal. you're just whining because you can't plug in a usb drive and hack your console like the other two.
For what it's worth, I do find it a bit annoying that Geo said he was going to release a custom firmware to fix the Other OS issue he caused, and now there's no sign of it. Either it ended up being too hard for him, he lied and never intended to release a cfw, or its all been a big joke. Either way, nothing good came out of the whole situation.I was looking forward to some hacking progress, but now that seems like its a brick wall. Ive heard good things about the progress of SKFU, though, so maybe there will be other avenues to pursue.I myself am a developer, and Im quite interested in seeing if a cfw is possible from my talents, but for that to even happen, Id have to go back and learn everything about the system and then some. Oh, what to do!

I was pretty upset when I first found out other OS was removed and by the "promises" made by Geohot. What got me more upset was when he just went into silence for a while.Now that he has came out and explained the hack clearly and pretty much stated how the PS3 will do all the work for you, it should help people who want to get a custom firmware running.In all honesty, I would hate to see piracy happening on the PS3. I don't want all the money I have spent on this thing to go to waste just because some little teenager without a job can't buy games.

Thank you geohot for the info! I am a very experienced C+ user and I already attempted to hack the PS3. It seems apparent to me that I can hack the firmware, but otherOS wont be on it when I hack it.
